TAZ GmbH is a manufacturer of certified material-specific CRM reference samples

Manufacturers of reference samples for optical emission spectrometry cast their samples with an appropriate adjustment of the concentration ranges of all alloying elements. However, the chemical composition of the reference samples usually does not correspond to any defined alloy quality. For an unambiguous evaluation of all relevant elements of a product/material, two or even three different reference samples are therefore required in most cases.

To enable the control of a material with just one sample, TAZ GmbH develops alloy-specific reference samples.

The control of an analysis in routine operation is thus possible with minimal time expenditure and by measuring only a single reference sample. This allows for quick and reliable verification of results, both with high-resolution spark spectrometers and in the context of confusion checks, material sorting, PMI tests, or similar, using mobile spark spectrometers.

Optimally coordinated processes at TAZ GmbH for the certification of reference samples

As part of quality assurance, suitable internal structures for the production of our reference samples have been established. The homogeneity of the starting materials is already strictly assessed and documented. Traceability of all individual reference samples to a specific batch is guaranteed.

The production of our certified reference materials (CRM) complies with the requirements of DIN EN ISO 17034. Naturally, we also observe the standards ISO GUIDE 30 – 33 and 35.

All TAZ CRM samples undergo a carefully prepared, elaborate interlaboratory comparison with external cooperation partners. The chemical composition and homogeneity of reference samples are very important for this. Our reference material is first tested for this with extensive spark spectral analyses. Finally, complete cross-sections are examined for areas with segregation and inclusions using high-resolution XRF mappings. The participating laboratories analyze the reference samples using various validated methods. When conducting and evaluating the interlaboratory comparisons, we follow the evaluation procedure of the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM). The certificate issuance naturally includes norm-compliant measurement uncertainties.

Preparations and measures for the accreditation of TAZ GmbH as a manufacturer of certified traceable reference samples are currently underway.

Reference materials are indispensable for continuous quality control. Without suitable reference material, a flawless analysis with reliable measurement results cannot be guaranteed. Even a reliable confusion check/PMI test, material sorting, or the calibration of optical emission spectrometers and X-ray fluorescence spectrometers are not possible without suitable reference material.
