The certificate specifies an uncertainty at a defined confidence level for each certified value, based on certified procedures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Traceable CRM<br \/>\n<\/strong>These CRMs are certified by a national metrological institute or by an accredited reference material manufacturer. Traceable reference samples occupy the highest hierarchical position among reference materials, as direct traceability to SI units is sought and reference material manufacturers accredited according to DIN EN ISO 17034 (formerly ISO Guide 34) enjoy a very high level of trust. Traceable reference samples are a prerequisite for all areas of application accredited according to DIN EN ISO 17025. The designation of certified traceable samples usually begins with EZRM, ECRM, ERM, BAM, SRM, SCRM, SS-CRM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reference Material (RM)<\/strong><br \/>\nReference materials are materials that are sufficiently constant and homogeneous to be used for calibration, for evaluating the measurement procedure, or for assigning material values. These reference samples are normally examined by several laboratories as part of a round-robin test and delivered with an analysis certificate. In these certificates, the requirements according to ISO Guide 35 are not met in all cases and the certification may be based on other regulations. Some manufacturers issue very well-documented certificates. However, the certification process (number of independent laboratories, methods, uncertainties, etc.) is not fully described by all publishers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Setting-Up Sample (SUS)<\/strong><br \/>\nCalibration samples or setting-up samples are materials of specially tested homogeneity for which the specified quantitative composition is not certified. The purpose of these samples is to check and maintain the signal stability of the spectrometer, i.e., to monitor the long-term stability of the device.
